THE EX-BOMBERS - “The Tightwire” LP I know this has been around for a while but it had gotten
caught in the not so wonderful world of backlog so I couldn’t really listen to this until recently. The debut
album from the Ex-Bombers unveils a moody aural story of espionage with a mix of personal observation, intrigue, and an underlying
foreboding. Using mostly 8 string bass guitar and drums (there is some occasional Rhodes piano, organ and theremin at
some points), Scott and Kari create music that draws from early rock, beatnik jazz, and even an occasional hint of new wave
to keep things moving forward. This audio tackles such things as lust, the conflict between man and machine, changing times
and more within its sonic grasp. Minimalist but not empty, the songs here manage to both simmer and drive, making it
just as much part of the story as the lyrics. Only available on vinyl, this album is a palette cleanser that comes off
like a breath of fresh air in a world of clichéd rock. (BOONE)
