RECREANT - LP I picked this up when I saw the band play at Lemp a while back but due to a number of obligations
getting in the way, I could only give it a passing listen until now. The follow up to Snakes and Vultures finds Recreant
hrowing down a blend of grindcore, death metal, and powerviolence that laces in bittersweet violin lines over a hard,
driving, sometimes dissonant scooped guitar ferocity and rhythmic pummeling. Songs take on the war on drugs, religion,
the economic crisis, and how we treat each other among other things which walks a fine line between speed of light powerchord
fury and melodic flourishes that hint at what’s up ahead. While the production did muffle the vocals a little
bit, the band’s overall sonic ride is mind-blowing. After hearing this again, I’m glad I took a chance to
see recreant - and to pick up their album. A split released between IFB Records, All We Know Records, Panda Banda, and Dingleberry
Records. (BOONE)
