NEATLY KNOTTED - “Mountain of Youth” cassette
My curiosity was piqued when I heard this would
be coming out so when I finally got to listen I jumped at the chance. The latest from Neatly Knotted ventures into moody
lo fi indie art pop that hints at shoe gaze and early goth but isn’t beholden to it. Fueled by noise laden (often
cheap Casio) keyboards and a lot of reverb, these songs are introspective and a bit dark but have something alluring
about them that draws you in and keeps your attention. It’s a hard thing to describe Ben’s work as Neatly
Knotted but it always manages to make for an interesting listen for those willing to give the music a chance. This is
the kick off release for local tape label Dismal Niche, which makes it even more interesting. Definitely worth checking
out if you dig lo fi art pop or indie underground rock. (BOONE)
