THE JULIE RUIN -"Run Fast" LP
This is one of those albums that almost came out of nowhere while having a great deal of hopes and anticipation towards
it. The debut album from The Julie Ruin draws from a blend of punk, indie rock, and 80s era synth laden new wave to create
melodic catchy rock that melds the personal and political into something that is both danceable and acerbic. With songs that
range from takes on the struggles women face to love songs to art and activism in NYC to more introspective material, the
band manages to keep a melodic flair in these synth and guitar fueled hooks. Drawing from their roots but making them in
their own image, this band is part electro, part underground rock with an energy that can often simmer but definitely piques
the listener's curiosity throughout. The Julie Ruin manages to show a band ready to make their place as well as a fine return
to form for a legend of the underground music scene. (BOONE)
