NEO BOYS - "Sooner or Later" double LP
I first heard about this when I was wandering around in the Interwebs and had my curiosity piqued enough to hear it.
This double album collects the discography of this early Portland punk band along with demos and live tracks recorded during
their five year lifespan ('78-'83). Neo Boys' music was stripped to the basics punk rock with no frills. Strummed guitars
and solid as a rock rhythms deliver some basic rock n roll tracks that takes on personal topics with some hints of larger
issues such as class, poverty, the system, and the like. As the album progresses, they manage to be both a product and a
reflection of their time; an era when punk rock had far fewer rules about what it could be than today. Over the decades Neo
Boys' sole EP and single had built a cult following, influencing a number of artists. Upon hearing this, one can see why
that is - and why their legacy is well deserved. Check this out for a hit of what went down when punk meant more anything
goes than the three chord loud fast rules that has almost become a formula at times. Glad I finally got to hear this. (BOONE)
