ULTRA BIDE - "DNA vs DNAc" LP
I finally got to pick this album up when I saw the band live a while back at the lounge part of Fubar. The lasts incarnation
of Ultra Bide is a propulsive sonic noise rock ride where often frantic rhythms meld with a tweaked dual bass guitar sound
for songs that mine aural aggression with a sense of the bizarre that goes for the jugular and won't let up throughout. Fueled
by layered, often thickly overdriven, tones that stomp through the speakers, the songs come across as a mix of commentary
and stream of consciousness as they tackle topics ranging from the state of punk rock to mutated DNA to referencing the Fukushima
nuclear disaster in all but name along the way. The tweaked sonic vision of Ultra Bide isn't for everyone, nor should it
be. However, listeners with a sense of adventure will find themselves both challenged at times and blown away by what are
in these grooves. (BOONE)
