THE JULIE RUIN - "Brightside"/"In The Picture"
This flew completely under the radar with me finding out about it a month or two after its release when I was online looking
around for no reason; so after taking a look around I went to pick it up. "Brightside" is an up tempo pop rocker
fueled by piano and simple guitar stabs to detail the contrast between trying to look at the bright side versus how things
sometimes are. The flip side is a moody ballad built on tremolo and an introspective feel that hints at nostalgia in a tale
of loss. Both songs build upon a hook laden mix of dreaminess and fire to create a sonic personal narrative. Released for
Record Store Day 2014, this single's supply is limited when it comes to vinyl but should still be available on download.
While slightly different from their debut album, these songs compliment the band's sound extremely well. (BOONE)
