CORROSION OF CONFORMITY - "IX" double LP
When I learned about this album my curiosity was piqued The latest album from Corrosion of Conformity further harnesses
the sonic peaks of the band’s three decade long journey. From pummeling near sludge metal to thrash to hardcore
punk and back again, the band journeys through the heavier side of underground rock for songs that range from observational
tales of personal upheaval to a history lesson of a slave uprising and more along the way in tracks that can go from simmering
vacuum tube toasted guitar leads to rampaging rhythms at the drop of a pin. By blending somewhat complex and intricate rhythm
patterns with an almost freewheeling sonic abandon, the audio journey is a hard driving ride that harnesses decades of heaviness
and recasts it in their own solid yet highly malleable sonic image. Even since returning from hiatus a few
years back COC has gone from strength to strength both as a live band and in terms of new music (two albums and an EP
in roughly two years is an accomplishment these days). Their new album continues the band’s trailblazing hard and
heavy legacy and make it sound effortless in the process. (BOONE)
