RATOS DE PORAO - "Seculo Sinistro" LP
News of this album took me by surprise so when I had the chance to hear a stream of it before its stateside release I
took the plunge. This time around the legendary Brazilian crossover/HC pioneers got for the jugular with an intense batch
of loud aggressive HC punk laced liberally with thrash metal throughout. Chock full of tight double bass drum pummeling and
buzzy precision scooped death guitar chords deliver, these songs are delivered in a raw, almost feral form. Hard edged and
high energy, RDP's songs are part cathartic energy release and part audio calls to action with no signs of relenting or backing
off. While I'm not certain what every song is about (I don't know Portuguese), this album continues to build on the legacy
Ratos de
Porao has created over the past few decades. Yet more proof that hardcore and metal crossing over can still result in
some great music that knows its roots without being cliché. (BOONE)
