JACK GRELLE - "Steering Me Away" LP
I picked this up when I saw Jack play a few months back and had listened to it a bit but never got into review mindset
until now so here goes. On his latest, Jack his band deliver some hardcore stone country built on twangy Telecaster licks,
pedal steel embellishments, and songs that definitely make you imagine them performing these on a stage behind chickenwire
or plexiglass. Whether singing about his van, or telling tales of relationships or of people dealing with loss, the songs
can evoke a busy dancefloor or crying in your beer, taking on a feel of life on the road and observations drawn from such.
Jack's music has come a long ways from his acoustic solo days (though he still plays some shows like this) and each step
forward has me curious. In an era where country music seems to draw more from EDM and prefab pop than its three chords and
the truth roots, this stand out in the best way possible. (BOONE)
