NOTS - "We Are Nots" LP
I've been curious about this release for a while but hadn't really had the chance to listen until now. the debut full-length
from Nots is terse, punk fueled garage rock full of driving guitar riffs blended with an organ (and possibly synthesizer)
gravy flourish ladled alongside. Walking a thin line between spacey and wound up, the songs are driving and feral with chanted
choruses and jerky guitar lines to create a feel that was both moody and anthemic. While the occasional use of delay and
synth textures hint at a spacey, near sci-fi feel, there is a directness to the music that cuts to the core and builds out
into the sonic tapestry of each song. Nots' music isn't cookie cutter and may seem off putting to those seeking bog standard
punk or indie, but it's their willingness to take their sound down other textures and patterns to make them stand out. (BOONE)
