BIG MEDICINE - "Quicksand" CD
This had been in the grapevine for a while and I was waiting for when I'd get a chance to actually review this. The debut
CD from locals Big Medicine delivers some rootsy rock drawing from backwoods country, raw blues, and some occasional hints
of the ethereal. Singing about a range of things from the tale of a wrongfully condemned man to a Stones-y sounding history
lesson to tales of breakups, getting older, and the struggles of life in general, the songs evoke a mix of wonder, heartache,
some angst, and moving on over bittersweet guitars and a straight to the point rhythm section. The feel on these songs isn't
the flavor of the month but an expression of emotion and cutting to the quick, building on the stories and truth telling nature
of the band's roots and pushing it forward. Big Medicine has been through a lot over the years and it's good to finally see
this recording make it out to the strange world at large. (BOONE)
