J. MASCIS - "Fade Into You"/"Outside"
I know this was a release from Record Store Day last year but it didn't come to my attention until recently so I'm breaking
the protocol and reviewing it. "Fade Into You" is a pretty straight Mazzy Star cover with only acoustic guitars
to set the longing in J's voice apart. The flip side's "Outside" is an unreleased track from the recording sessions
of his previous solo album and is a breezier uptempo acoustic folk rock song that states it's case simply and cleanly. While
the songs here may shock those who only know casually know his work from Dinosaur Jr., the music is in keeping with his work,
showing another facet to him and being catchy enough to take you in and make you curious. I don't know if any singles are
still available but you can buy a download if you know where to look. (BOONE)
