CLITORIS REX - "Clitoris Delores" CDEP
I picked this disc up when I saw them play at Cafe Berlin at the benefit for True North after the Sleater-Kinney show
across town. On their debut EP, this duo blasts out some incidiary raw punk that's part lo-fi grunge, part hardcore anger,
and a stripped down aesthetic that rides throughout these five songs. With just oversaturated guitar and drums, C Rex unleashes
songs about the suffocating nature of small towns, sexist expectations, misogyny and the like. While there are only a few
songs here the power evident here harnesses Riot Grrrl influences and sculpts it into a garage meet HC punk audio weapon that
doesn't so much imitate as much as places their own spin on the canon. Admittedly some people may get pissed off by what C
Rex stands for but that's their problem. This is one of those bands that more people should find out about so if you get a
chance to see them live, by all means take it. (BOONE)
