THE ETERNALS - "Heavy International" CD
I got to pick this disc up when I saw the band open for Ted Leo at the Gargoyle a few months back and have been finally
got around to it in the backlog pile. The latest album from The Eternals finds them creating reggae/dub tracks over predominantly
electronic based aural beds. Combining synthesizers and samples with some organic instruments the songs have a highly danceable
feel to them while seeming a little unsettling and disturbing at the same time. Even when this is taken into consideration,
they lay down an extremely tight in the pocket groove on many of the songs that dares you not to move. The result is one
of those bands seeming to draw from reggae and dub music to create a more unique vision that still pays much respect to its
roots. It's a little different from their live show but the Eternals can still get their point across on record. (BOONE)
