THE WYLDZ - "Interstellar Troubadours" CD
I picked this up when I saw the band play out of curiosity on Easter Sunday over at Rose Music Hall but hadn't really
had a chance to listen until putting this issue together. The latest from this trio from France (via Austin) is throw down
the gauntlet vintage flavored hard rock that builds on the tight muscular rhythm section with a wall of guitar crunch that
draws from early metal and space rock at times. While this could come off as derivative there's something here I can't put
my finger on that keeps it vibrant and makes it sound as powerful today as their influences were four or so decades ago. The
Wyldz are one of those bands that avoids current clichés of what a rock band is supposed to be and manages to create something
fairly unique in this musical landscape. Never heard of this band until a few months ago but they definitely have me curious
about what they'll do next. Why rock radio isn't playing these days at least in light rotation remains a mystery though.
