BOB MOULD - "Circle of Friends" DVD
There are some things that grab your attention from the moment you first learn about them. When I found out there was
a Bob Mould live DVD coming out, I knew I had to check it out for myself. This disc captures Mould's return to touring with
a full band after several years of solo tours and more dance leaning music with a show at D.C.'s 9:30 club in late 2005.
After a short pre show video piece, the show kicks into gear as Mould and his band tea into a diverse often high-energy overview
of his songs over the years representing material from his days with Husker Du and Sugar as well as his solo work. With a
powerfully tight rhythm section laying the foundation, Mould's voice and aggressive cum melodic guitar is taken to a near
cathartic energy level. The result perfectly features Mould's buzzsaw guitar based punk turned near noise pop/rock anthems.
Visually it's shot tastefully with vivid near film quality that highlights the contrasts and colored lights to accentuate
the whole event, making one wish they were at the show. Bob Mould again proves he still hasn't lost the spark or his way
with a song that fans have come to expect after all these years. Get this. (BOONE)
