SURF FRIENDS - "Dreams Are Real" cassette EP
This was another recording I downloaded out of curiosity and wanted to hear what the band sounded like. Surf Friends'
latest is simmering mid-tempo indie rock that blends overdriven electric and acoustic guitar to make hook laden songs that
hint at pop while dipping into ambient fields of reverb and the occasional wall of dissonance along the way. The lo-fi approach
adds to the feel of this EP with the band putting their own take on the NZ indie sound they draw a good chunk of their inspiration
from. While some indie fans may be a little shocked by this EP Surf Friends' ability to build upon a sound finds them a safe
home and a good launching pad for fans of their label’s other artists. I wonder if they’re ever going
to play on this side of the Equator. (BOONE)
