RAMONES - "It's Alive 1974 - 1996" double DVD
I know many of you probably already know about this two disc set but I got it over the holidays and thought it would
be good to mention it. This collection compiles live footage from various venues throughout this legendary band's 22 year
career. From early shows at the legendary CBGB's to clips from TV shows (both in the U.S. and elsewhere) to a stadium concert
in Argentina and beyond, this band's sound is highlighted through all their stages - all live (with the exception of a couple
of lipsynched TV clips, though some of the TV appearances are live as well). Whether taking on their stripped down punk rock
anthems to their take on 60s pop classics to an occasional foray into hardcore, the viewer can see the band's evolution and
growth as well as hear hints of lesser known influences (there are some definite nods to bubblegum pop here). While the Ramones
never did become megastars, they did create most of the template of what we consider punk rock today. Many Ramones fans probably
already have this, but those readers wondering about how punk rock started will want to check this out. (BOONE)
