THE DOLLYROTS -"Mama's Gonna Knock You Out" CDEP
Sometimes a recording comes along that emerges out of almost nowhere, unexpected by anyone - including the artists themselves.
This is one such example. Written and recorded in the aftermath of getting their upcoming live CD/DVD ready for release
the Dollyrots got inspired to throw down a few songs and put them out. This EP harnesses the band's blend of punk ferocity
and pop hooks with a modern edge. Crunchy wall of guitars and high powered harmonies drive these personal songs that burst
out the speakers with power and energy. While the modern production elements are prominent (hints of synths and what sound
like programmed drums) the band folds in relatively neatly within the sonic smorgasbord they've drawn from over the past decade
and a half (give or take a couple years). Kelly and Luis have managed to bash out a quick EP that breezily walks the gray
area between punk, pop, and power pop, to confront the listener and makes them want to hear more. It's a good aural appetizer
for the coming live disc. (BOONE)
