SPOILER NYC - "Grease Fire in Hell's Kitchen" CD
Due to some circumstances beyond my control I've found myself with some unexpected free time lately, as a result I've
been going through the back log file and came across this CD we came across a while back. Spoiler NYC plays mid-tempo punk
rock with a vintage vibe and an emphasis of hard driving but catchy hooks and melodies that seem rooted in the feel of bands
like Social Distortion. The songs are tales of street life with a mix of rage and longing. While the intentions sonically
appear to be good, the disc is slightly marred by overly slick production styles. It's a small distraction, but this is a
band where a harder edged rougher sound would really work to their benefit. This is a catchy listenable album that should
appeal to fans of modern melodic punk's harder side. Yeah, the parental advisory warning on the cover is a bit silly since
any "punk" who would buy a CD unaware that some of the songs may be "shocking" has either just joined
the scene five minutes ago or isn't worthy of punk in the first place but enough of my rant on that issue. Check this album
out for yourself. (BOONE)
