THE JULIE RUIN - "Hit Reset" LP
Definitely was psyched to check this out from the moment I found out about it so when a chance to stream it pre-release
happened I dove in and listened. The second album from The Julie Ruin continues the band's streak of moody electronic tinged
underground rock that meld sometimes icy, sometimes ominous synth textures with catchy as hell rock songs that comment on
surviving hardships, abuse, expectations that women "be nice," male entitlement, and more in ways that show the
intersection between what's personal and what's political. Managing to be at times confrontational, danceable, and moody,
the songs paint a picture on the effects of a society that doesn’t trust or respect women as well as the eventual
need to overcome the obstacles placed by it. The Julie Ruin once again creates an album that proves you can dance if you
want to and not have to give up thinking along the way. (BOONE)
