SHEER MAG - "III" EP
Picked this up when I saw them play Blank Space in St. Louis last Spring but, between the inevitable stuff to review backlog
and other obligations, it fell through the listening cracks until putting together this issue. The third EP from Sheer Mag
delivers catchy slabs of pure rock'n'roll with tight songs, tasty (sometimes harmonized) guitar leads, and a blend of punk
attitude and almost garage-y vintage hard rock swagger. Lyrically the songs take on institutionalized misogyny at home and
abroad, homophobia, and sexism with a directness that matches the vibe of the music. In a truly just world this EP would
be in light to medium rotation (at the very least) on rock radio stations. For now curious listeners have to seek this out
on their own. With their third EP Sheer Mag has created a sonic wallop that will make people who hear it take notice. (BOONE)
