KELLY BETZ - "Spirit Animal" download EP
I know this had been out for a bit but I hadn't had a chance to really listen to this until recently. On the most recent
release, Kelly Betz delivers some personal leaning lo-fi hip hop where his raps are ladled over minimal sonic bases that seem
to draw from underground rock and avant-garde noise more than typical rap soundscapes. The result is a more personal approach
as he tackles thoughts and emotions as subject matter throughout the six songs here. Add to this a near industrial sounding
instrumental piece that shifts gears and you have an EP where the lines between underground electronic music and rap get blurred.
Kelly's had a few releases out recently (including a Radiohead tribute/deconstruction) and has kept himself busy so I wonder
what he'll be up to next. (BOONE)
