THE SHONDES - "Brighton" LP
This is an album I'd been curious about ever since I found out about it so I put this on the first chance I had to do
so. On Brighton, the Shondes go inward for a set of driving yet introspective rock music that looks at love and life in its
ups and downs. With bittersweet guitar that can go from jangly to crunch with ease and violin that glides as if floating,
the songs walk the line between anthemic and vulnerable in these love songs that go more personal than expected but manage
to weave things into larger issues at times. The music here lures in the listeners and lulls them into an album that is simultaneously
both their most personal and their most straight up melodic rock release with a feel that lifts up the listener and won't
let go even at the hardest moments. The Shondes have always followed their own true north sonically and thematically and
now seem to have melded the personal and political themes into an artistic look at life itself. Admittedly I'm a bit biased
but you should at least check out this album. (BOONE)
