JACK GRELLE - "Got Dressed Up To Be Let Down" LP
I've heard some of these songs live for a while so I've
been waiting to hear the album when it came out - and now I have a chance. The latest from Grelle continues his penchant
for stone country laced with pedal steel licks and a mid to slow song feel that may have you crying in your beer in a dark
bar. Lyrically he's taking on a number of personal and sociological topics ranging from love songs and memories of birthday
cards from his grandmother to a woman getting tired of the games involved with dating as well as the aftermath of the Mike
Brown killing among other things. What emerges is a moody, sometimes dark sonic journey that turns country music conventions
on their head while upholding an almost purist musical vision. (Big Muddy Records)
