HANUKKAH JONES BAND - "Loser Friendly" CDEP
I got a hold of this at their CD release show a couple months
back but I didn't have time to really listen to it until now. On their long awaited new EP, Jon and company throw down obtuse
poppy punk with stripped down production and a raw yet clear sonic imprint. Crude rhythm guitar and straight ahead song hooks
throw down songs that tackle take on the personal with a view that's sometimes jaded and sometimes hopeful. Writing of personal
struggles and hollow words, the songs are a sonic journey that can go from raw (yet catchy) punk to jangly pop along the way.
The seven songs here filter in elements of both punk and alternative rock to create a disc that manages to reveal more than
expected (even touching base with one song in a different context). Loser Friendly shows Hanukkah Jones Band venturing into
other areas of their musical roots and managing to draw some common ground between the sub-genres. Good to see this band
back in the recording and show groove again. (BOONE)
