CALVIN JOHNSON AND THE SNOW-TONES - "Pink Cadillac"/"Crazy Legs"
This single is one of those things
I picked up slightly out of curiosity and was wondering what to expect. On this one-off Calvin Johnson meets with an ad hoc
band (including some members of the Pine Hill Haints) to deliver something out of left field. "Pink Cadillac" is
a stripped down slab of rock'n'roll fueled by an active bassline and Johnson's heavily reverb-ed vocals for a vibe that's
part love song, part audio deconstruction. The flip side's "Crazy Legs" is a minimalist raveup that uses only drums
reverb-ed to the max and harmonica to create something that's unlike most music out today. Both songs were tracked on analog
and have an old time rock'n'roll feel, though deflected through a different sonic lens at times. Unfortunately, copies of
this are limited but if you know where to look you might find one. (BOONE)
