DISASTER STRIKES - "In the Age of Corporate Personhood" LP
This came out in the final stages of 2016 and
I was curious about it but circumstances in both my life as well as the big picture meant I wasn't able to really listen to
this until now. The latest from Disaster Strikes explodes out the speakers with some sharp aggressive blasts of hardcore
punk that matches taut medium fast rhythms and saturated guitar with a more aware approach to subject matter. Taking on subjects
ranging from the need to fight back and the title track's look at corporate personhood (with a cameo from Jello Biafra) to
drone strikes and the need for intersectional solidarity the band delivers sonic attacks on the forces that control our lives
and try to keep us down. Hard edged yet slightly melodic at times their music builds on tension, harnessing it into a sonic
grenade that blows up upon impact and makes you want more. In an age where hardcore seems to be a spinoff of thrash metal
with more unfocused anger than pure rage, Disaster Strikes again infuses it with punk attitude and a reminder of where the
music came from. If there's ever a time for an album like this, it's during days like these. I wish I would've gotten to
really listen to it sooner. (BOONE)
