THE POP GROUP - "Honeymoon on Mars" LP
This is one of those albums that I was curious about for a while so
when I finally got a chance to listen to it I decided to take notes. On their latest album The Pop Group delivers a dystopian
sonic vision where funky guitar stabs collide with sometimes minimalist drums as an ominous bass synth glides beneath the
surface to create a strange sonic blend of funk, industrial, and dub/reggae. The result is a journey through the parts of
the world a lot of people would prefer not to look at with topics which deals with tough questions regarding things around
us with issues such as alienation, war (and those profiting off it), religion, and nationalism hinted at in these tracks.
Honeymoon on Mars shows the Pop Group further harnessing their updated sonic vision and turns the unexpected into something
that may polarize many people but will take those who listen closely down an interesting path. (BOONE)
