THE SHONDES - "Brighton B-Sides" download EP
I was hoping to review this in the last issue but a mix of personal
issues as well as the tension of post election Mur'ka meant things would get pushed by the wayside, unfortunately so now I'll
listen. Intended as a tour only bonus, this EP from The Shondes continues their melding of underground rock with more melodic
and introspective sounds that emerged on the new album. Willing to go from driving rockers to more jangly and introspective
songs, the band builds guitar fueled tracks while liquid violin lines that both evoke the emotions while keeping the song
moving forward. The four songs here continue the themes from Brighton, adding a nuance to the details of relationships, love,
and struggle detailed on the album with just enough perspective to be both a compliment to the album and a document in its
own right. While the band did sell a limited edition CDEP on their last tour, for the most part it's only available as a
digital download (which is why we mentioned it as such). (theshondes.bandcamp.com)
