BETH BOMBARA - Map and No Direction LP
This came to our attention recently and we had been waiting for the time to listen to this to no avail - until now. The
latest album form St. Louis' own Beth Bombara is an aural journey from medium paced Americana tinged rock to languid yet rootsy
ballads with occasional hints of folk, country, and blues along the way. Forged on a blend of simmering guitar, and sultry
vocals, the music takes on a number of moods along the way as organ, drums, and various other instruments enter and leave
the fray (depending on the song). What emerges is an aural journey of sorts that spin a wide variety of elements from personal
relationship issues to bluesman Blind Willie McTell along its sonic path. Map and No Direction mines the grey area between
rock and Americana to make something that fits said genres comfort zone yet hints at something deeper under the surface.
