THE COURTNEYS - The Courtneys II LP
I had never heard of this band before I came across a mention of them online (on a social networking site I won't mention
because they don't need my help) and decided to give them a listen. On their second album The Courtneys deliver some fuzzy
yet melodic noise tinged indie pop rock build on a dynamic of distorted yet breezy guitars and almost gooey pop hooks. Catchy
yet dissonant, these are love songs that speak of longing as much as the good side of said relationships. Walking the line
between indie, pop, and (yes) punk, the songs here lure the listener in and traps them with a blend of raw lo-fi crunch and
edgy yet sometimes sentimental lyrics in an aural atmosphere that draws from its influences but doesn't completely slavishly
copy them. The Courtneys have created an album that's a bit rough yet sometimes gooey, if not sugary sweet; regardless they
carry on some of the best qualities of what some people call indie rock these days. Check this out and make up your own mind.
