THE HOOTEN HALLERS - LP
I was wondering what this band was up to when I learned on the web that they had a new album coming out; thus making me
want to hear a stream of it when I had the chance. The Columbia (via St. Louis) trio's latest starts with a semi acoustic
lighter number, the band soon ventures into the raw bluesy rock that's as crude as ever with raunchy baritone saxophone bass
lines and guitar so dirty you can almost see the grime through the speakers with a couple more country leaning songs thrown
into the fray. Raw and a bit nasty, much of the album stays true to the genre's roots with a simple delivery and attitude
to spare. Coming off last year's Mountain of Pain EP, the Hooten Hallers manage to let their sound grow without venturing
too far off the path. Fans of the band are likely already on board with this disc but I do recommend playing this for people
you know into the more mainstream blues and country music and seeing how they react. Always good to know they're still plugging
along. (BOONE)
