RAINER MARIA - S/T LP
This seems to be a season of surprises as far as music is concerned; nowhere is this true more than when news broke that
Rainer Maria had not only gotten back together after over a decade but had a new album ready to go. On their comeback album
(for lack of a better term) the trio creates simmering midtempo art rock with elements of punk and indie laced within. Forged
on a blend of driving rhythms and wall of distortion guitars fuel these personal leaning tracks as they examine a mix of both
emotional and sonic contrasts (especially with tracks featuring clean/overdriven guitar parts). It's a sonically intense
journey but one that manages to grab the listener and keep their attention over these nine songs. While a lot has happened
over the past decade or so, Rainer Maria has made an album that builds upon their sonic legacy and maintains a freshness throughout
the sonic layers. Good to see them playing again. (BOONE)
