GENTLEMAN AUCTION HOUSE - "The Book of Matches" CDEP
With all the ups and downs this past year has given me, I do have to say it's helped me in going through and checking
out some music that I've been meaning to review for a while. On this EP Gentleman Auction House take their laconic style
of indie rock into more rock direction combining two tracks from their most recent album with some unreleased material. Musically,
the tracks emphasize the more rock elements of the band than their previous work appeared to with a more aggressive feel than
some may expect. The result is a somewhat darker record at points but one that managed to distill the best elements of this
band into one short sharp aural machine all the way to the change of direction in the last track. While the first listen
may slightly startle some fans, this EP does continue the trajectory Gentleman Auction House has maintained over the last
several years. Fans of more artsy indie rock will find this interesting. (BOONE)
