31 KNOTS – “Worried Well” LP
I’d
heard some good things about this record from friends who said I should check
this out, so when it came my way I nabbed it.
This is fairly hard driving post indie rock fueled with a strong (often
driving) bear, good melodies, and tons of energy. The songs here vary from guitar-fueled
dissonance to keyboard based art rock arrangements. While the music on this album does
have its
unexpected, even aggressive, moments, there’s a feeling here that hard to
explain but seems familiar and keeps the band from belly diving into some of
the clichés indie rock has unfortunately slid into the last few years. I know this
disc has garnered some attention
recently, but I have to admit this may be one of those instances where the
attention is warranted. Kudos to 31
Knots for creating one of 2008’s more unusual, yet compelling, releases. (BOONE)
